There are a few things I didn’t love about this book. ![]() The original Dirty Book Club, who we are introduced to briefly and then at length through letters, were very funny and on the original wave of feminism. The main character, M.J., was certainly far from perfect but was also quite chic, so it was fun to read from her perspective. ![]() I really enjoyed the female friendships that were both created and fostered throughout this book. Author of The Clique series, I am very familiar with her writing-or at least my 13 year old self was-so I was only too delighted to pick up a book about grown women who join a dirty book club. My interest was piqued when I saw The Dirty Book Club was written by the star of my young adolescent bookshelf, Lisi Harrison. ![]() Then, her chic and spunky older neighbor, Gloria, jets off to Paris and leaves her with a key and an envelope inscribed with “DBC.” Instead of feeling free, she finds herself bored out of her mind. Adam is a more softer person than the dickhead I thought he was. And I got immediately hooked, this quote will probably say enough."Adam Roth and I were going to be stuck with each other until death did us part, and it just might be a violent death for one of us." -LilyIt appeares that they have more going on than we would expect from the previous books. 5/10/2023 0 Comments Tree of smoke johnson![]() ![]() I understand that the Colonel is the pivotal character in this book, but I've been waiting 400 pages for him to do something of sustenance, and so far have only been strung along by Johnson's fine writing and the Houston brothers side plots. There have been some gruesome scenes, but I'm not aware of any serious obstacles the characters need to overcome, nor am I seeing any any centralized plot. ![]() I understand the things I'm reading, but for a book focused on the Vietnam war, it feels so devoid of conflict. ![]() I'm about 2/3 of the way into Tree of Smoke, and I can't really say I "get" what's going on. However, I'm having a more difficult time connecting with this one. I read Train Dreams several months ago and it was my favorite book I read in 2020. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, that endgame is upon us as an expedition travels to the edge of space to try and figure out how save all of humanity. It is part of a growing network of right-wing extremists groups who are pushing baseless conspiracies about election fraud, and has direct links to violent militias, notably the Oath Keepers. The Praetorians are a new paramilitary organization that Lewis says has grown to “hundreds” of members in just nine months, in almost complete secrecy. The QAnon conference-called “For God & Country: Patriot Roundup”-was a perfect fit. The group was founded last September and has since acted as security for more than a dozen events, as well as providing security for Flynn himself.
